Dubai Workshop 2013
Crossing over the ocean for a timelapse workshop
We were pretty stoked when Kashif Joosub from Light House Studio in Dubai invited us to host a timelapse workshop!
It didn't take long to finalise the dates. Since we've never been to Dubai before it was going to be a different kind of trip as we normally travel to places without buildings and loads of people. Places we can get to with our Land Rover ;-)
We decided to host a 2 day workshop including an intense full day workshop on theory and a second full day, finishing up on the post processing, whereafter practical shooting would take place.
Kashif and Light House Studio put in a lot of effort to organise and market the workshops. The theory took place at the studio and we went out to The Palm for our practical "holy grail" shooting. We were pleased with the interest in timelapse photography and the general knowledge of the group was very good.
When presenting a workshop there is always a bit of uncertainty about the overall knowledge of the group on the subject and in this case the amount of questions we got were amazing! This was an immediate sign that most of the students had some previous experience with timelapse or have done a bit of reading before. It's just great to get so many questions because it shows that people are really hungry to learn!!
By lunch time brains were frying trying to process all the theory on the tips and secrets of shooting great timelapse shots. There is just so much to learn! Thankfully we filled our bellies with delicious foods and this gave everyone loads of energy for the second part of the theory, starting with post processing. After this everyone was eager to get out and shoot!
The next day we only started at 12:00 allowing us to be out for the practical shooting before sunset to test out holy grail shooting. We also discussed how and why LRTimelapse is an essential part of timelapse editing, especially if you are just starting out! When the post processing theory was complete we headed out to The Palm to set-up for shooting. We all shot in the same direction making it easier for everybody to be on the same page regarding light-changing conditions etc.
Once everybody was all set-up and understood how to use their intervalometers, it was time to fire away! Now we coached the students through the process to manually change their exposure as the light drops while the sun is setting. Shooting continued until about an hour after the sun has set to show how the city lights come on while the light fades into night.
And so we had to say goodbye after our action packed 2 day workshop… WOW! It was awesome to meet each and every one of you and we truly value your support and appreciate your interest in this challenging, yet very exciting form of photography!
We will put together a little BTS timelapse video of what was happening during the workshop. For now you can have a peak at our holy grail shot from our practical outing below. We are really excited to see your results too, no matter how it turned out! Sometimes people are hesitant to share their shots with us as they believe it's not good enough. Like I always say "we all have to start somewhere"!
Remember, LRTimelapse is available at a discounted price if you buy it directly through TimeLapse SA's website. Just follow the link and use the coupon code on check-out.
Please share your results with us and stay connected via Facebook and Instagram Check out more of our work on Vimeo You can also sign up to our newsletter for any future news, workshops and more ;-)
Here is some photos from our really super-duper Timelapse Workshop in Dubai Special thanks to Light House Studio for inviting us and to Kashif for being our personal tour guide. You really made our Dubai trip very enjoyable and the restaurants you took us to was fantastic, especially Taste of Fame! An even bigger special thanks to each one who joined us on this timelapse workshop!! If it wasn't for you, we wouldn't have been there... And to those who travelled from Oman and other far away locations, thank you!! We regret that some of you were unable to stay for the practical shooting as you had too far to drive back at night :-(
Perhaps you'll see us again in 2014! Next time we definitely need to hit the desert and dunes!
Keep an eye out for the review on the Olympus OM-D E-M5 which we used to capture our Dubai adventures.
