Weekend Workshop 2014

The popularity of this timelapse weekend workshop is just growing and growing! Since the very first one that happened in Feb 2013, we knew that this will become a regular event on our calendar. And we did it again! Same place, same time, same weather…..

Only this time, we had a surprise. It was the perfect opportunity to launch our brand new dolly - the SCYO!

We all met up at the Petroport on the N1 just outside Pretoria from where we travelled in a convoy of 7 vehicles, one of them towing a boat. As per usual, our first stop was at the famous Biltong Shop "Plek van die Vleisvreters - Biltong Deli" where we all stocked up for the weekend ahead. On arrival in town a thunderstorm had just past through and we knew, like last time, it will be a wet one ;-)

When arriving at camp, everyone jumped straight in to set up their tents and get the camp sorted out so that we could get down to dolly business before the rain start to do it's business. But it wasn't long before the heavens opened up above us, as if it was time to build an ark again. And we already had a boat. Non the less, we continued in the rain! Heck, we were in the middle of a launch. We couldn't stop! And neither did the rain….

Not being able to shoot any night-lapses, we made some big fires to stay dry and warm. And have a braai of course ;-)
This meant everyone had fresh batteries and empty memory cards for some early morning shots. The weather was still very much unpredictable and constantly changing making it difficult to know if we'll have a another wet day or if we'll see some sun later on.

There was a keen interest in the SCYO dolly and people actually teamed up to work together on shots, allowing more people to test-drive this new dolly, the Shukuma Create Your Own. We just love having a bunch of creative people together, sharing ideas and planning shots. Plenty of geek talk took place about various filming and photographic equipment too.

Thankfully the weather did give us a chance, despite the drizzly morning we had. We were blessed with an incredible sunset! There were plenty of cameras and dollies around, firing shots in all different directions as no one could resist to shoot this magical scene. A few people were energetic enough to shoot some astro-lapses and we also had some fun in the dark at camp.

We would like to thank you all for joining us on the 2014 Timelapse Weekend Workshop. Some new faces joined in and a few old faces just couldn't resist! It was great to see you again and to get to know a few more timelapse enthusiasts in South Africa. On this weekend new friendships are formed, brains get fried, timelapse knowledge is shared and it even makes you do the funky monkey moves during group shots!

Let us know once you have edited a shot or two. We would love to see your results and add it to the TLSA Vimeo Channel.

The next one will be taking place in March 2015. So stay connected, subscribe to the newsletter follow us on Facebook, Vimeo, Instagram and Linked In and be informed.
