Wait! What?? An assignment to shoot timelapse in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve... Is this for real?
We were super stoked to be commissioned by Londolozi to shoot some timelapse for a very special occasion that took place at this luxurious 5 star lodge. Not because we will experience 5 star treatment, but because we get to shoot in the African bush!
To date, this has been one of the best assignments E.V.E.R !

Oh wow! Where on earth to begin with the memories from our most recent timelapse venture...
The Karoo in South Africa is such an incredible location! But it's harsh, it's hot and it's dry! At the same time it's so forgiving. It's so peaceful. It's majestic and magical. It's a destination like no other and that surely must be a good enough reason why we can't get enough of this place...

Rigging up a 10m dolly.... Sure, that's no problem! We've done longer than that before! Technically that was for a timelapse set-up and this time around Black Envelope Films needed us to rig for realtime video moves. Repeat moves that is. Timed with precision. For VFX work this precision in repeat moves are crucial. And this is what we can do! Oh, and did we say the dolly needs to carry a fully kitted RED DRAGON?? Nothing that the Shukuma PRO dolly can't handle ;-)

With the way technology goes there are always new things, new ideas, new gadgets and who knows what else in demand. Better this, better that! Never seen before, never been filmed before, techniques never been used before. And so the list goes on! Maybe the news that we have to share with you is not that extreme but we sure are pretty stoked about it. We have two new very exciting things on the TimeLapse SA forefront...

Braai! Did somebody say braai?? Faction Media sure did when they contacted us to shoot this new Television Commercial for Megamaster with them. Now if you don't know what Megamaster is all about, you'll soon find out ;-)

I recently set out to do an in-depth review testing the Nikon D610 and the Canon 6D, specifically focusing on the functionality and workflow for timelapse photographers. It was a tough prediction to make as it was clear even before the testing started that Nikon outshines Canon on some levels where Canon out-performs Nikon again on other levels.

Without any further ado, let's get to it!

We've put together a short lttle video showing the features and capabilities of the Motion Control kit that we use.

Getting my Shukuma PRO dolly up to par with other high-end moco systems out there meant that I needed more axises, not one, not two, not three but four…. To achieve that it was only wise to look into the eMotimo TB3 - a precision 3 axis motion controller. Together with the Shukuma PRO I can now shoot linear, pan and tilt moves with the fourth very exciting axis being follow focus!
